The Wildcats got a boost in Villanova by beating the Pirates, 84-76, in Big East action.

Maalik Wayns was the leading scorer for the Wildcats, shooting 38% for 25 points in 35 minutes. JayVaughn Pinkston led both teams with 11 rebounds.

The Wildcats were expected to win this game, but not by such a big margin. Seton Hall had a much better RPI than Villanova (#4 to #106). The Wildcats play very well at home, but the Pirates have been playing well lately, winning 4 of 5. A year ago, Villanova beat Seton Hall 60-57. Over the last four years, the Wildcats are now 5-0 against the Pirates including 3-0 at The Pavilion. Villanova has a winning record over Seton Hall going back to 1980, 35-18.

Villanova dominated Seton Hall in free throw shooting and also came out on top in defensive rebounding.


Villanova was able to rule the glass, 30 defensive rebounds to 20, allowing for more possession changes. The Wildcats made more free throws, with 34 points to a total of 12 for the Pirates.
