Kevin Jones from West Virginia has been selected for StatSheet's Big East Player of the Week for January 23rd. West Virginia's Jabarie Hinds has won StatSheet Big East Freshman of the Week. Also, Cincinnati's JaQuon Parker has taken StatSheet's Big East 6th Man of the Week. Jones registered big numbers in shooting (70%), rebounding (10 per game), and scoring (25.5 pts per game). The West Virginia senior put these numbers up in wins against Marshall and Cincinnati.
Jones led scoring and rebounding for the Mountaineers with 25 points and 7 rebounds in a 78-62 win over Marshall. He then led all scoring and rebounding with a 26 point and 13 rebound performance in a narrow 77-74 win against Cincinnati.
This is the second time this season that Kevin Jones has been selected StatSheet Big East Player of the Week. He has also come in second once and received multiple honorable mentions. The runner-up this week is sophomore Bryce Cotton from Providence. Honorable mention goes to Louisville sophomore Gorgui Dieng. Maalik Wayns, who finished fourth, was the highest ranking player from Villanova.
StatSheet Big East Freshman of the Week: West Virginia's Jabarie Hinds
Jabarie Hinds played an average of 34 minutes starting both games for West Virginia. In the win over Marshall, Hinds rang up 3 assists and 83% shooting. Then in the win over Cincinnati, he added 12 points and 3 steals.
This is a first for Jabarie Hinds, who has never won the StatSheet Big East Freshman of the Week. LaDontae Henton from Providence gets runner-up. Our own JayVaughn Pinkston takes honorable mention.
StatSheet Big East 6th Man of the Week: Cincinnati's JaQuon Parker
Junior JaQuon Parker, a 6-3 guard, played an average of 23 minutes over two games for the Bearcats. In a close 70-67 win over Connecticut, Parker got 4 rebounds and 50% shooting. During a 77-74 loss to West Virginia, he racked up 9 points and 4 rebounds.
This is the first StatSheet Big East 6th Man of the Week award for JaQuon Parker. Jamil Wilson, a sophomore forward from Marquette, is runner up. Jawanza Poland, a junior guard from South Florida, earns honorable mention. Villanova players have not yet been named StatSheet Big East Player of the Week this season.
